The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a long book at 463 pages but moves along at incredible speed considering all the history and family background the author covers. In fact when I had finished it, I was deeply saddened to see it end. Luckily there are two more books in this series and the second one deals more exclusively with the "Girl". There is much ugly violence against women throughout the story so this book is not for the faint of heart. The main characters, Blomkvist and Lisbeth, come together to solve the murder of a 15 year old niece of a successful industrialist, Henrik Vanger. The chemistry and tension the author creates between the main characters draws you deeply into their struggles between the desparate search for the truth and their need to forget the ugly realities of human degradation.
