2014 Winter/Spring Programs

|Tail Wagging Tutors||Lego Club|
Our drop-in stories resume this winter, and are divided into two sessions. There is week break between sessions. Session I is five weeks long, began the week of January 14-16 and ended the week of February 11-13. Session II is six weeks long, begins the week of February 25-27 and ends the week of April 1-3.
Storytimes for children 3 years of age and younger are 30 minutes long and include a variety of stories, songs, fingerplays, and other activities. Storytimes are held in our children’s story and craft room. Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. We ask that parents and caregivers arrive at least 5 minutes before storytime begins in order to get settled in.

Celebratewinter and spring with a variety of art,craft, and interactive programs on Saturday mornings. Children should be able to color, cut, and glue indenpendently. Please check the registration dates for each program.
Spring Fairies – March 8 – 10:30-11:30 am – Spring is in the air and thoughts turn to what might be hidng in all those new flower gardens. Come hear stories and make a fairy-related craft.

Starlab: Spring Nights – March 29 – 10:30 am, 11:30 am and 12:30 pm– Explore the wonders of the spring night sky within a portable StarLab dome planetarium from Oakland County Parks' Wint Nature Center. The program is approximately 45 minutes long and participants are required to crawl through a short tunnel and sit on the floor. Because of the enclosed, darkened environment of this program, children under the age of 5 will not be registered or admitted by Parks personnel.
Please register for only one program. Parents who plan to enter the dome must register themselves as well.

Eggstordinary Easter – April 5 – 10:30-11:30 am – Bunnies, lambs, and chicks. Eggs and flowers dressed in a rainbow of color. Easter is on its way! We'll be making several crafts to brighten and cheer your home for the holiday.

Meet the Artist - Joyce Wefel from the Waterford Cultural Council presents a fun and informative program featuring master artists and their paintings. Students will get to make their own artistic masterpieces to take home.

Students in grades K-5 who would like to gain confidence in reading out loud will have the opportunity to read to a dog for 15 minutes. Sessions will be Saturdays beginning January 18 at 2:00PM with Angel and Sammi; and Wednesdays beginning January 15 at 4:30 with Kathy and Wyatt. Please call 248-618-7692 to register.
Students meet the fourth Saturday of the month to create their own Lego structure from our Lego collection. They will be displayed in the library until the next meeting. Then the students can make new structures. We have two class times in the morning for each day. Please sign up for only one of the times: 10:15-11:00am or 11:30am -12:15pm.

Group Tours and School Visits: Schools, daycares, scout groups, and other community organizations are encouraged to bring their classes to the library for a visit. Please call (248) 618-7692 to schedule your class visit. A children’s librarian will provide age-appropriate activities for your group such as storytimes, booktalks, library skills instruction, and tours. Your group of children may receive library cards if they are Waterford residents or attend Waterford Schools. Library card applications are required to be completed by the children's parents and returned to the library one week prior to the class visit. The staff is unable to process 20+ applications on the day of your visit.
Arrangements can be made for a children's librarian to come and visit your school or daycare facility. We will do our best to accommodate the teachers' requests. Please schedule all school visits in advance.
