Robert B. Parker's IronhorseRobert B. Parker's Ironhorse by Robert Knott
"Robert B. Parker's legion of fans will be thrilled with Ironhorse.  Robert Knott, co-writer of the screenplay for Appaloosa - Bob's remarkable western- has penned the next great saga featuring itinerant lawmen Everett Hitch and Virgil Cole.   Knott's new novel reads just like vintage Parker and the storyline crackles with all the excitement and humor of what is a perfect continuation of the Hitch/Cole series. Parker fans are going to love it!" —Ed Harris, Academy Award-nominated actor

New Computer Stations in the Children's Room

Image of AWE computersThanks to the generosity of our Friends, we have new game computers in the Children's Department.  There are two Early Literacy Stations from AWE (Advanced Workstations in Education), and two stations with specialized Internet browsers.

The Early Literacy Station (ELS) is a dynamic all-in-one digital learning solution for children ages 2-8. It is a self-contained unit requiring no Internet connection, so it is safe and secure. The educational titles are pre-loaded on the computer and are displayed using engaging graphics and intuitive menus.  But it's not just reading literacy that ELS promotes, but also proficiency in math, science & nature, social studies & geography, reading, phonics, and language arts, writing & computer skills, reference, and music & art.  Although, there are over 60 "games" loaded on the ELS computers, many of the games have more games within itself bringing the total up to 158.  Two ELS stations have replaced our old CD-ROM stations C & D.  The stations are first come, first serve.  They cannot be reserved.  Students may go on for up to an hour before being logged off.  No library card is required. The Library has ebooks

Do you have a Kindle, iPad, Nook, or Android tablet? Did you know you can borrow ebooks from the library to put on your device? You can! Go to our Download Destination site, powered by Overdrive. You'll need to be a Waterford or Lake Angelus resident, and know your library card number and pin. And you'll likely need to use the "Help" feature at the upper right part of  the Download Destination home page to see how to do it. There are help videos available to view, also. Tip: once you're ready to check something out, if you want to find something that is available for checkout right then, use the advanced search, pick your format, check off the box that says "only show titles with copies available", and then click "search".  Due to the high demand for copies of library ebooks you'll often have to place a hold and be on a waiting list for popular titles.  If you get stuck or have trouble, come on in to the adult reference desk, or give us a call - we'll do our best to help.

Ghost Planet

Ghost Planet by Sharon Lynn Fisher - "Psychologist Elizabeth Cole prepared for the worst when she accepted a job on a newly discovered world--a world where every colonist is tethered to an alien who manifests in the form of a dead loved one."
Bowl of Heaven by Gergory Benford and Larry Niven - "a human expedition to another star system is jeopardized by an encounter with an astonishingly immense artifact in interstellar space: a bowl-shaped structure half-englobing a star, with a habitable area equivalent to many millions of Earths…and it’s on a direct path heading for the same system as the human ship."
